NORTHFIELD, MN – December 1, 2001 – HometownGrocers.com, a premier provider of Online Shopping services to brick and mortar grocery retailers, has completed the conversion of VG’s Food Centers’ Online Shopping services from IDS and started serving VG’s customers as of December 3, 2001.
HometownGrocers.com multiple methods for consumers to place orders, their order fulfillment process and their automated process of electronically moving information between the store’s, a retailer’s corporate office, HometownGrocers.com offices, and consumers were key factors.
VG’s consumers may order their groceries using a consumer scanner, a catalog based Automated Call Center, through the Internet or by calling a Staffed Call Center and talking with a live operator. The Staffed Call Center is located in Vg’s corporate offices.
VG’s stores use HometownGrocers.com Express Shopper feature for their order fulfillment process. Express Shopper was designed for individuals, who have limited computer knowledge, to easily process multiple online grocery orders simultaneously. The Express Shopper feature minimizes store labor by allowing store personnel to shop, bag and checkout up to ten (10) orders at one time in the store's aisles. Express Shopper saves the labor cost of baggers and checkers by eliminating the need to check out orders through the store's point-of-sale.
VG’s uses HometownGrocers.com wide area Online Shopping transaction loop. The loop provides VG’s the electronic connectivity from their corporate office, their stores, HometownGrocers.com online servers and the consumer. Pricing, store coupons and consumer purchase history are captured and moved easily within the loop to provide a timely information exchange. This process allows for daily or more frequent price changes, accurate and actual electronic coupon redemption, electronic promotions and actual purchase data that captures consumer buying trends and target marketing data.
